SULLA VIA DI DAMASCO…
Signore, tu tieni in mano ogni cosa,
la nostra vita, il nostro futuro!
Tu hai tenuto in mano la vita di Paolo
in maniera aperta e grandiosa,
dal momento della sua conversione e chiamata.
Tu non l’hai mai abbandonato,
soprattutto nei momenti difficili,
in cui egli forse non sapeva
che cosa gli stava succedendo,
che cosa gli riservasse il futuro.
Ti sei manifestato a lui come fratello e amico
e lo hai sempre incoraggiato
a proseguire il cammino.
Da quando lo hai chiamato,
sulla strada di Damasco,
la sua esistenza non ha avuto altro scopo
che quello di farti conoscere.
Donaci di comprendere
la tua misericordia su di noi,
perché possiamo, con fiducia,
accettare la tua guida,
credere nel significato provvidenziale
di ciò che è avvenuto e avviene
nella nostra esistenza cristiana.
La tua presenza ci illumini sulle scelte
che tu ci chiami a fare,
per essere, come Paolo,
testimoni credibili del tuo Vangelo!

Per chiedere il buon profumo di Cristo
(il termine « profumo di Cristo » si trova in 2Cor 2,15, e presumo che l’autore si sia ispirato a Paolo anche se non c’è scritto, Gabriella)

Concedi, o Padre,
che rinnovati dai santi misteri,
diffondiamo nel mondo il buon profumo di Cristo.
È dono, o Padre,
che noi imploriamo senza stancarci,
prodotto dal « pane spezzato »
e dal « sangue Eucaristico »,
spremitura di chicchi di sofferenza e di acini di gioia,
unguento che contagia,
profumo nuovo di comunione fraterna.
Per ottenerlo siamo pronti a deporre le divisioni,
accantonare le contese,
eliminare le rivalità,
pagando con la moneta del perdono dato al nemico.
Per profumare di Cristo
lavoreremo insieme su progetti comuni,
gareggeremo nello stimarci a vicenda,
porteremo gli uni il peso degli altri.
Allora, anche i lontani, attratti da questo soave odore,
si accompagneranno al nostro cammino,
volgeranno lo sguardo a colui che è stato trafitto
e, innamorati,
non lo distoglieranno mai più.

PREGHIERA A S. PAOLO APOSTOLO
nel bimillenario della sua nascita
San Paolo, apostolo delle genti,
testimone della carità
chiamato dal Risorto sulla via di Damasco
ottienici dalla Santissima Trinità
il coraggio di annunciare il Vangelo.
Ad imitazione delle Chiese da te evangelizzate:
Corinto, Galazia, Efeso, Filippi,
Colossi, Tessalonica, Roma
vogliamo essere anche noi
sul nostro territorio diocesano Chiesa missionaria,
casa di speranza aperta a tutti;
Chiesa che diffonde
il buon profumo di Cristo;
Chiesa dal volto più bello e amorevole.
San Paolo, innamorato di Cristo e della Chiesa,
tienici uniti perché il Mistero
generi in noi l’Amore.
Docili all’azione dello Spirito Santo,
vogliamo anche noi poter dire con te:
“sono stato crocifisso con Cristo
e non sono più io che vivo, ma Cristo vive in me.
Questa vita che vivo nella carne io la vivo nella fede
del Figlio di Dio, che mi ha amato
e ha dato se stesso per me” (Gal 2, 20).
San Paolo apostolo, prega per noi.

St. Paul and Prayer
We can see from St. Paul’s letters that prayer was an important part of his life. He prayed because God was the center of his universe. “For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:36) “Pray without ceasing,” he told the Thessalonians, “In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17–18)
Paul addresses his prayer to God the Father, in the name of Jesus, and by the power of the Holy Spirit: “In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings.” (Romans 8:26) Paul rarely prays for worldly things like health, prosperity, or healing. These things don’t last. He says that “we look not to what is seen but to what is unseen; for what is seen is transitory, but what is unseen is eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18)
Ephesians offers a good summary of Pauline prayer,
“. . . that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:17–19)

Prayer to St. Paul the Apostle
Holy Apostle, who, with your teachings and with your charity, have taught the entire world, look kindly upon us, your children and disciples.
We expect everything from your prayers to the Divine Master and to Mary, Queen of the Apostles. Grant, Doctor of the Gentiles, that we may live by faith, save ourselves by hope, and that charity alone reign in us. Obtain for us, vessel of election, docile correspondence to divine grace, so that it may not remain unfruitful in us. Grant that we may ever better know youlove you, and imitate you; that we may be living members of the CHurch, the Mystical Body of Jesus Christ. Raise up many and holy apostles. May the warm breath of true charity permeate the entire world. Grant that all may know and glorify God and the Divine Master, Way and Truth and Life.
And, Lord Jesus, You know we have no faith in our own powers. In Your mercy grant that we may be defended against all adversity, through the powerful intercession of St. Paul, our Teacher and Father.
